[INT.] What possesses someone to start selling CDs and records in 2015? And, more importantly, how are they able to make it a success, for both label and artist? Get answers to these questions, and more, when Tiger Music explain themselves at SPOT+ on Saturday May 2nd.

For those accustomed to reading about the music business, the story of Tiger Music seems to be from another decade. At least. They sign names like Danish jazz saxophonist Benjamin Koppel, klezmer-ensemble Klezmofobia, and – most recently – popular Danish multi-talent Vinnie Who. And they sell thousands of records and CDs – with Klezmofobia’s three albums reportedly selling 58.000 albums worldwide. So what’s the deal with Tiger Music?

A concept counter to the current trend
– We’ve invited Tiger Music to SPOT+, because we think they have an interesting concept. In a world which is digitalizing at an ever increasing pace – and where most people are focusing on streaming – there’s a really interesting story to Tiger Music. And we would like you all to hear that story, and perhaps be inspired to think differently about things, states Jesper Mardahl, Leader of PROMUS and co-organizer of SPOT+.

Profits split on a 50-50 basis
Tiger Music is a part of Tiger, a variety chain with stores in 26 countries, including most of Europe, USA and Japan. The concept is pretty straight forward: Tiger Music signs a deal with an upcoming or niche artist. The artist retains all rights to the music – and Tiger Music gets the right to distribute and promote the music for a limited time. The records and CDs are then sold in Tiger stores all around the world – at the time of this article 441 stores and counting, with 2-3 stores opening every week. The music is generously priced – a CD typically costs €5 and an old school record €7. All profits are split 50-50 between artist and Tiger Music. Tiger Music also host concerts by their artist at a price of approx.. €7 incl. one CD for free.

Hear Anne Busacker and Lennart Lajboschitz from Tiger Music on Saturday May 2nd between 14.15 and 15.00 at the Sueica Conference Hall in the SPOT+ Area.
